The building was constructed on the small squared foundation discovered within the plot. Originally there had been a wooden house and the concept of the new project is based on the notion of the original building – a captain’s residence with a tower in Ķīpsala on the bank of river Daugava. More…
Behind the historical replica of the wooden house there is a masonry building designed as archetype of a traditional architecture. Location of the house and the layout of premises have been arranged taking into consideration the geological water streams, location of four cardinal points, solar path and directions of the dominant winds.
The centre of the house is marked by point of intersection of four underground water streams – open fireplace, which has been constructed as association of a traditional chimney. The fireplace is located on the main East -West axis, which starts with the entrance gate then passes through threshold, front door, hall and stretches through the main living room to the court yard.
The unique feature of the house is the unification of two historical archetypes – rural house and city dweller's house which takes place within the third period of time – at the end of the 20th century.
