This project started as a surprising proposal – to make a private family residence and art gallery in the very centre of the old town of Ventspils in a 19th century brewery, which occupies 2,5 hectares of land. More…
Is it even possible and acceptable:
The former beer brewery buildings make architecturally valuable and impressive complex, the value of which will considerably increase when it is restored and the worthless surrounding buildings are demolished. Particularly valuable is the warehouse, built during the first half of the 19th century in the style of classicism. The three storey tower which has been built in Neo-Romanesque manner makes a vertical accent and both these buildings are connected with the solid volume of the third block with the large single slope of the roof.
The idea of renovation project – to connect the existing valuable stone buildings and garages with a light glass gallery. The gallery has a flat terrace roof which makes it possible to stay outdoors not only on the ground level. The spacious garden can be created in various ways and it can serve as green oasis both for inhabitants of the residence as well as for the old town as a whole.
By planning a family residence and gallery within the historical brewery ensemble we definitely envisage:
- to preserve all historically valuable buildings of the site and they are - two 19th century single storey manufacturing buildings with a courtyard and a tower;
- to preserve the architectural image and structure of the brewery ensemble as much as possible;
- accurate restoration of all authentic constructions of the existing valuable masonry buildings;
- careful and sensitive renovation of the existing buildings and delicate introduction of the new volumes.
