BALLAST DAM 68A

The residential house was built in the 1880s according to the project of architect Winkler in timber frame constructions with a board facade cladding. The small plot has been densely built up and, judging by the typology of the objects, the owners were engaged in salmon processing. The reconstruction project intends to preserve the residential building in its existing outline and form. The main entrance to the house is planned from Enkuru Street: the staircase extension tower in the courtyard has been moved to the corner in a diagonal direction parallel to the red line of Enkuru Street. Such a reconstruction covers the front yard of the building with the terrace volume and pergola against the windows of the three-story building of the Gypsum Factory, ensuring privacy for residents. The construction of two windows on the second floor of the building has been moved to the Enkuru Street end of the building, emphasizing the vertical accent of the street corner and the end of the building row, which is complemented by the mighty linden tree. The facade of the building becomes asymmetrical. The main staircase has also been moved to the corner of the house instead of the current single-story entrance. On the first floor there is a large living hall, which is built to the full height of the roof structures with an insulated roof. In addition to the hall, the first floor has an office, a veranda, a sauna group and an entrance lobby. The building has two bedroom apartments on the second floor. A full basement with an underground garage is planned under the building. On July 16, 2014, the Riga Historical Center Preservation and Development Council supported the submitted proposal for the reconstruction of the building.
