HOLIDAY HOUSE SUNRISE

The residential farmstead “Saulstari” is located on the border of Bērzciems, in the dune protection zone of the Gulf of Riga and the Engure Lake Nature Park zone. The plot includes a two-story wooden summer house, built around the thirties of the twentieth century; a lightweight concrete block farm building, used as a barn; a small fish drying house, which has partially collapsed. The image of a romantic wooden summer house in Jūrmalciems is a well-proportioned volume, which wonderfully fits into the landscape of the Baltic Sea coast and evokes memories of a carefree childhood on the seaside – sun, birds, swimming in the sea and long evenings on the terrace. The project proposal provides for a careful and sensitive reconstruction of a residential wooden summer house and farm building. The residential building is planned to be rebuilt into a winter house, preserving its existing form and architectural image. When conducting a technical survey of the residential building, it turned out that it was built in light wooden frame structures on light foundations. The building has served its life for about eighty years and is in very poor technical condition. The project involves dismantling the building and erecting a new wooden frame structure in the dimensions and architecture of the existing building, slightly increasing it at the expense of insulating the foundation, walls and roof. The new building retains the light and bright architectural image of the existing summer house in both volume and detail - board cladding and wooden details, windows, veranda, doors, jambs, eaves, faded yellow facade paint with linseed oil paints and light edge details. The roof is planned to be covered with tin. The outbuilding is planned to be demolished as a worthless and environmentally degrading structure. In its place, a new outbuilding with a gable roof is planned to be built in light wooden frame structures on piles embedded in the ground. Garden area – preserved in its existing location, existing fruit trees, shrubs and perennials preserved and maintained. The entrance to the ground and the gate are provided in the existing location from the driveway. The yard is designed within the existing yard parameters, without affecting the natural base of the forest zone.
