SLOKAS STREET 30

The plot of land is located at Slokas Street No. 30. The existing wooden residential house is located deep in the plot, and is covered from the street front by a strip of bushes and trees. This is a former diplomats' district with magnificent wooden houses in the vicinity. An expressively decorated wooden house is also located on the plot behind the house. Two plots further on are the Martins Church and cemetery. The entrance was historically located at the northern end of the plot with a road to the farmyard. In the front square of the plot facing the street, there was a garden landscaped according to the principles of classicism with a central circle, surrounded by a path, in the southern corner of the garden a wooden gazebo is visible in the project, such as were in many Pārdaugava villas.
The luxurious wooden house was built as a two-storey apartment building, one apartment on each floor. The author of its project is the German architect Eduard Kupfers, the original project from 1904 was in the State Archives.
Reconstruction proposal
The philosophy of the reconstruction of the historical building is a careful renovation, preserving the image and character of a luxurious Pārdaugava garden villa as much as possible. The advantage of the house is that it is located deep in the plot, away from the noise and dust of the street, and a well-kept garden can be created in front of it. The project envisages restoring the classic circular composition of the garden with gravel paths, bushes and flower plantings. The building is separated from the street by a dense row of bushes, as well as from the side and rear grounds. The existing trees need to be maintained, especially the mighty chestnut tree that grows at the entrance gate.
The house has been rebuilt into four apartments:
The first-floor apartment occupies the entire floor. It is designed for a large family – with the master’s and three children’s bedrooms, an office, a veranda and an outdoor terrace on the back facade of the house.
The second floor is divided into two apartments, a two-bedroom apartment on the right side, two bedrooms on the left side, but there is a large hall and a veranda. A balcony on pillars has been added to the middle part of the rear facade of the building, which gives both apartments an outdoor space.
The central part of the roof has been raised on the attic floor and an apartment with three bedrooms and two covered roof terraces facing the street has been built. On the rear facade, the bedrooms have exits to the balcony.
The planning respects the original structure of the house, evaluating the original partition walls and preserving the proportions of the rooms as much as possible.
